Over 30 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes in India, though the true figure of people affected is thought to be between 40 and 60 million. India currently has the highest number of people with diabetes in the world, and this figure is likely to continue to rise.
With appropriate interventions, diabetes can be successfully managed. However, people with diabetes are at an increased risk of developing complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy, heart disease and diabetic retinopathy (DR). DR is damage to the retina caused by high blood glucose levels. In severe cases it can result in loss of vision, but if identified and treated early, progression of DR can be slowed down and blindness prevented. Therefore, the safe and effective management of DR patient care is essential, and the NPS Vector software can facilitate this.
Vector currently provides DR management software for the whole of Scotland (14 Health Boards), and for 9 Eye Screening Programmes in England. Around half a million people have their eyes screened with Vector every year.
Vector is a highly configurable software suite and offers the following benefits:
- Secure and effective storage of single patient records.
- Allows Multi-disciplinary teams to access the records and create a longitudinal detailed healthcare record in a holistic patient-centric fashion.
- Enables care plans and drug regimen to be recorded and analysed.
- Can be fully integrated with other diabetes clinics such as podiatry.
